Fire Retardant
Historically fire retardant products have only been available
from pressure impregnation systems as with other preservative treatments.
However the international demand for fire retardant has been ever increasing and has lead to much product development from overseas and in the UK.
Fire Retardant treatment is undertaken normally on our premises as the fire rating desired is based on the absorption of fluid per square meter of product. Therefore most products need to pass through the machine on an average of three times to absorb the required quantity of fluid.
The number of passes varies by timber species and moisture content of parcel, so we calculate the amount of fire protection fluid required per parcel/order and apply in excess of the required amount. We are then able to supply a certificate of conformance.
The product we recommend for use is H.R Prof (Fire Retardant UK) which is colourless and can be applied prior to preservative treatment, on or after preservative treatment.
It is important to observe that fire protection/retardant protection is achieved by an overall decorating system, ie a fire test certificate is issued based on all coatings. Care must therefore be taken to ensure that subsequent coatings do not include an accelerant to encourage spread of flame.
